Description

The mid-engined 914 was Porsche’s third ever new model, and was conceived to become Porsche’s entry-level sportscar, slotting in below the 911T. It was famously co-conceived as a Volkswagen, and fitted with that company’s ubiquitous flat-four in various guises. Controversially, styling was for years attributed to German film Gugelot, and it only came to light later that Heinrich Klie, a Porsche internal, had developed the design himself. This car is a 914/6, the car which spear-headed the range by having fitted the 911T’s 2.0 litre flat six. Two-inches wider than a 911, and the same length. With two luggage compartments, and space in the rear to stow the Targa top, its practicality was later recognised when Porsche released the Boxter and Cayman models.

This example is one of two 914/6s famously brought to Australia by Hamiltons for assessment. Import docs state bought in as RHD. Still has original rego & plates. The cost of bringing the 914 into Australia in both four and six-cylinder formats proved too expensive, not leaving enough of a gap in the retail price between it, and the 911T, thus consigning it, sadly, to history and making this car rather a special car in the scope of Porsche cars in Australia.
