Description
For many, glamour is defined by the Corniche, as is longevity. Convertibles like this one were built from 1971 till 1995, exceeding the length of production of Mercedes Benz’s R107 SL series, often thought to be rather long for a car of the ilk.
Powered by a 6.75 litre V8, orinally fed by a pair of SU carburetors and driving the wheels via the standard, GM-sourced, three speed auto Turbo Hyrdramatic, reading the specification alone will define the car’s intent for relaxed, luxurious motoring for those who would regard high-revving engines as uncouth.
The Corniche was a development of the Shadow, or rather, the Park Ward Convertible version of that model, which was Rolls Royce’s most produced saloon. The Corniche also featured four-wheel independent suspension with hydraulic self-levelling, similar to Citroen’s system. Though not utterly flamboyant, the Corniche defines itself in its restraint, and its quietness and is for most, an instantly recognizable Rolls Royce model.
This example was delivered new to a Melbourne owner, and whilst it has had a respray, is in otherwise original condition.
