Description
The BMW Neue Klass series cars virtually saved BMW, and the two-door ‘02’ models were long-lived and popular cars that set new standards in ride, ergonomics and performance even in their standard, and tii formats. BMW were also at the vanguard of turbocharging, which they embraced with this model, and proved that the technology had a place in road-car technology and development. Along with Porsche and Saab, BMW were the first to put a turbo-charged car into production. It was, famously, like other early turbos, notoriously ‘on and off’, with big turbo-lag, there was an absolute art to being able to drive one at the limit. This is the only surviving, factory delivered right hand drive 2002 turbo in the world.
Only two right hand drive turbo’s were dealer supplied. The second car was also imported into Australia direct from the UK dealer but was written off in Sydney.
