Description

Car AR*752545* was imported new to Australia in 1967 by the Alfa Romeo distributor in Victoria, MW Motors on Elizabeth Street, Melbourne. Upon arrival it was immediately prepared and dispatched to Sandown International Raceway where it set 12 class speed and distance records over 12 hours, which stood for many years. Syd Fisher, Service Manager at MW Motors and Frank Porter drove the car. In March 1968 the car was driven in the Tasman Series at Longford in Tasmania by race legend Alan Hamilton. The GTA was purchased in late 1969 by Mario Marasco who raced the car in a modified form extensively at circuits in Victoria until the mid-‘70s. The car was subsequently stored for some 35 years until being discovered by its current owner. A long and meticulous restoration followed, which reverted the car to its original Stradale specification using original parts. This GTA is indeed a rare vehicle with a special place in Alfa Romeo history in Australia and in particular, Melbourne.
