Description
The S1 Continental name evokes the feeling of high-speed luxury like few others.
Bentley’s Continentals were a high performance version of the saloons , with more power and higher gearing, making them all capable of 185 km/h and epitomising long distance lavishness.
This 1958 car is one of the 45 RHD Park Ward Continentals boasting a lightweight two door coupe body. It was purchaced new by the Dunlop Rubber Co in the UK for the Chairman , Sir George Beharrell. It was used to test high speed tyres at Fort Dunlop and was retained as his private car. The car was chauffeur driven while in his keeping featuring a raised rear area for the very essential hat wearing of the era plus it only could be opened from the left hand side to be entered from the curb side and featuring a split bench seat for the Chauffeur to side over to the drivers side.
In 1970 it was purchased by the famous Australian singer-actor Maggie Fitzgibbon OAM, sister of the renowned musician Smacker Fitzgibbon. She used it in London and for long trips on the continent.
When Maggie returned to Australia in the late 1970’s, she brought the car with her and resided in Rutherglen, country Victoria .she sold the car in 2004 to the previous owner who completed the well needed restoration over several years.
As with the Continentals of the era, It has secret compartments allowing the family jewels to be stowed undetected across international boarders. There is also a hidden compartment for a rifle or shotgun.
This car is a suburb example of the best of British.
