Description
There are not many engines that boast four-valve per cylinder head technology, whist still utilizing carburetors for induction, but the 5000QV is one of them.
Giotto Bizzarini’s engine is unquestionably one of the world’s great powerplants, and in the Countach 5000QV it can be said that it is fitted to one of the world’s most notably bonkers cars. Whilst purists will argue that the earliest iterations of the model were best; bereft of addenda, and showing purity of form, just as Gandini intended, some simply love the eighties-excess version.
Bewinged, wide-tyred and non-sensically exaggerated, the Countach was not born of racing practice. Nothing makes the car any easier to use, neither the heft of the steering, nor the lack of vision out of the car in any direction other than straight ahead, but there is a certain satisfaction to be gained from pointing one at the horizon and levelling the accelerator, and it makes not an iota of sense.
