Description

The TR5 was built for a short time – 1967 to 68, by Triumph. Styled by the legend, Giovanni Michelotti, the TR5 featured the 2.5 litre, mechanically fuel injected straight six, rather than the four cylinder engine of its forebear, the TR4 and as a result, sealed its fate as a hairy-chested, big-hearted open British sports car in the spirit of the Austin Healey. Rack and pinion steering, front discs and independent rear suspension were virtual innovations in a British sportcars of the era, and lent the TR5 an air of sophistication, as well as a reputation for being a brisk and involving car. With a Surrey Top option, a TR5 became a slightly more usable, practical car that saw the ability for frequent use in England where canvas topped roadsters were regarded as dreadful and breezy by comparison.
