Description
The Daytona was christened by the media as such, after Ferrari’s 1-2-3 finish at the 1967 24 Hours of Daytona with a 330 P#, a 330 P4 and a 412P. The Daytona broke cover at the 1968 Paris Salon, to replace the outgoing 275 GTB/4 and was, like that car, clothed by Pininfarina, specifically from the pen of Leonardo Fioravanti – the man who was really giving Ferrari its identity at that time, having penned the mid-engined Dino.
The car utilised a development of the Colombo V12, the ‘4’ in the car’s name relating to the number of camshafts. With a brace of 6, 40DCN/20 Weber carburettors, the Daytona engine developed 347hp at 7500 rpm and it drove the rear wheels via a transaxle gearbox at the rear axle, keeping the differential and gearbox in unit and assisting the car to have a better weight distribution and better handling and traction characteristics.
This example was the second to last Daytona built, and was delivered new in Australia to Motorcross rider, Bert Flood.
