Description

The Alfa Romeo Montreal was conceived as a Bertone Prototype, styled by Marcello Gandini. It debuted at Expo 67 in Montreal, Quebec, Canada where it sat, fitted with a twin-cam four cylinder 105-series engine, and was nameless; the public taking to calling it Montreal. Montreal production commenced in 1970, and lasted till 1977 -with production models being famously fitted with a four-camshaft, 2.5 litre, 90 degree, dry-sumped V8.

Purchased new by the owner’s father Neal Charge in November 1974 at Henleys Motors Hawthorn. In 2002 after clocking about 8000 Miles, the car was prepared to compete in Targa Tasmania. It competed in standard form and classic seven times from 2003 to 2009 winning class and category awards, as well as running in Classic Adelaide three times with success.

In 2006 Neal Charge was invited to drive the Montreal in the Historic demonstration at the Australian Grand Prix at Albert Park, where he had competed in 1953 in his self-built MG Special (Finishing 13th). The car was unused from its retirement from racing in 2009 until 2019 when it was decided to restore to original condition. The Montreal has had a bare metal total refurbishment, mostly done by J2R in Dromana Vic. This car has still only travelled about 28,000 miles from new and remains in the same family it started with.
