Description
The 911E was part of an upgraded engine series across the model years of 1972 – 1973 where the cars each went to a 2.4l engine. The model line consisted of the entry 911T (Touring), the mid-range 911E and the top-of-the-line 911S (Super). The E stands for “Einspritzung” which means injection, as the car has the brilliant Bosch and Porsche developed mechanical fuel injection system (MFI).
This 1971 coupe, built to Australian specifications, originally picked up on Porsche’s tourist delivery scheme from Stuttgart by Malcolm Milne, the Australian Olympic skier who immediately drove it to France for training the next morning. The car was optioned with houndstooth interior, the unconventional, misunderstood but brilliant, Sportomatic transmission and fog light, sway bars, rear wiper – and front and rear tow hooks, especially for its potential retrieval from snow drifts.
