Description

Believed to be the 1st Porsche RS to race in the world in 1973 other than the 2 factory prototype cars in 1972. Brought to Ireland by Ronnie McCartney, who ran a garage with a Datsun agency in 1973, in Larne Co. Antrim, Northern Ireland. The car was registered new in London as is believed to have been the showroom demonstrator for Porsche agents. Ronnie bought the car for the 1973 Circuit of Ireland International rally. This was not the first Porsche to be rallied in Ireland but it was the first RS and the only Touring version to see competition on the Irish events. Almost immediately, after the 1973 Circuit of Ireland, Ronnie sold the car to rally man and car dealer Cathal Curley. Its next major event was the 1973 Donegal International Rally. Curley had only sat in the car for the first time at the start of that rally and went on to win. His next outing was Texaco national rally and he won again. In between he had a few wins in club events, next main outing was Manx (Isle of Man) International which he finished 2nd. All the time, he was not only winning against the fast Ford Escorts, but the Lightweight RS’s as well.

The car arrived in Australia in 1986 painted red and was then recoloured white in 1988. It was successfully raced in Australia in the 80s and early 90s. It was acquired by its current owner in 2007 and has just undergone a full restoration by The Motorists co-founder Dave Belford, through his Werk 1 restorations.
