Description

With its current custodians since 1995, this BMW 328 is one of two known examples here in Australia.

With its 1979cc straight six, the BMW 328 Roadster started the reputation of BMW as a builder of sporting cars. Motorsport success seemed to become synonymous with the model, with it debut win in the 1936 Eifelrennen race, where it triumphed in the two-litre class, 100 class wins in 1937 and in 1938, the RAC Tourist Trophy, The Alpine Rally and the Mille Miglia. In 1939, a 328 won its class at Le Mans, and here in Australia Frank Pratt won the 1948 Australian Grand Prix.

Peter Symanowski is credited with the car’s body design, but Fritz Fiedler and BMW stalwart, Alex Von Falkenhausen were all involved in the model’s design and development.
