Description
The Iso Grifo is a limited production Grand Tourer, manufactured by Iso Autoveicoli S.p.A, between 1965 and 1974.
One of 32 RHD introduced on the Bertone stand at the 1963 Torino Motor Show. Designed by the legendary Giorgetto Giugiaro, whilst the mechanical layout and engineering was the work of Giotto Bizzarini – interestingly for a car that had reliable and simple American V8 power, he was the man who designed Lamborghini’s fearsome and long-lived V12. Some 450 Grifos were produced.
This car was originally owned by Lord Lichfield in the UK who was the Queen’s photographer. It was purchased in Australia in 1998 partly disassembled and after the purchase turned into a Group S sports racing car and raced successfully for 5 years. It has since been restored to its current condition and club registered since 2008. It since has been used extensively in Europe on various classic rallies. It has a Chevrolet 327 V8 engine similar to that which would have been originally fitted, with a 5 speed Getrag gear box mated to a De Dion rear end with a Jaguar base suspension both front and rear. One of only 3 in Australia.
